Jonathan Di Bella's Strawweight title defense against Prajanchai scheduled for tomorrow's co-headlining bout at ONE Friday Fights 58 has been called off. The Canadian-Italian fighter has been stripped of his title after failing to meet the required hydration levels at yesterday's weigh-ins – a first for ONE's kickboxing divisions.
The promotion tried to go ahead and book a catchweight fight between the two fighters, with only Prajanchai being able to win the title, but Di Bella was later hospitalized.
Nicolas Atkin reached out to father and coach Angelo Di Bella, who confirmed that the former champion is in no condition to fight after vomitting, "Jonathan, of all people, is a blood and guts warrior. You think we came here to play?"
One of Di Bella's coaches, Justin Mancini, wrote on social media: "We had an amazing fight camp and everything was perfect. Jon was in top shape as always. Unfortunately, he got very sick yesterday and was hospitalized. I'm with the champ now and he’s very sick in bed. Thank you for all the love and support and we will keep you all posted".
The event will now go ahead with only ONE title fight – the main event between Superbon and Marat Grigorian for the Interim ONE Featherweight Kickboxing Championship.
