The Japanese promotion makes the penalty for missing weight even harsher.

K-1 has made a major change to its rules for fighters who miss weight, starting with the July 13 event in Fukuoka and the July 26 Krush event at Korakuen Hall. Until now, fighters who missed weight were penalized according to official rules, but the fight could still proceed with the opponent’s consent, and the result would count as official.

Those penalties typically included fines, point deductions, and requiring fighters to wear bigger gloves, which is already strict compared to industry standards. Now, K-1 is stepping up its efforts to crack down even further.

From these events onward, only a win by the fighter who made weight will count as an official result. Any other outcome will be ruled a no contest. This new rule follows the example set by Japanese MMA promotion RIZIN.
