Petchpanomrung has called time on his kickboxing career. The GLORY Kickboxing featherweight champion will relinquish his title after a decade competing in the sport.
Coming from a promising Muay Thai background that includes a WMC and Toyota Vigo Marathon Tournament title, Petchpanomrung brought his experience and technical pedigree to the international kickboxing scene. Making his kickboxing debut in 2016 against Stanislav Reniţă at GLORY 35: Nice, the Buriram native quickly established himself as the most dominant forces in the sport.
After coming up short against Robin van Roosmalen at GLORY 41: Holland in 2017, Petchpanomrung earned another opportunity against the Dutchman one year later. At GLORY 59: Amsterdam, he defeated van Roosmalen to capture the GLORY Featherweight Championship.
Petchpanomrung would go on to establish one of the longest championship reigns in GLORY, defending his belt nine consecutive times against some of the division’s best fighters, including Miguel Trindade, Kento Haraguchi, Abraham Vidales, and Kevin VanNostrand. His nine successful title defenses remain a GLORY featherweight record.
His kickboxing achievements also include winning the RISE Super Lightweight Championship and becoming the winner of the inaugural Featherweight World Grand Prix.
With GLORY announcing his departure from kickboxing, the question remains whether the 31-year-old is finished competing professionally. According to his trainer and manager Adrian Fairtex, the answer is no. Speaking to Beyond Kickboxing, Adrian explained:
"Personally, I believe it's time for Petch to return to his roots. He has achieved everything there is to achieve in kickboxing—multiple world titles, successful title defenses, and a legacy that will be remembered for years to come. There is simply nothing left for him to prove in the sport.
We're currently in negotiations with a major Muay Thai organization, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that everything comes together. If it does, I truly believe this will be one of the most exciting chapters of his career.
The one achievement that has always eluded Petch is winning a prestigious stadium Muay Thai title. That has always been a dream, and now we have the opportunity to chase it."
While nothing is confirmed, and with Lumpinee Stadium’s title landscape having changed following ONE Championship’s involvement, Petchpanomrung could potentially be in talks with the Rajadamnern World Series, where he would continue his career on one of Muay Thai’s biggest platforms.
Following Petchpanomrung's departure from the featherweight throne, the division's next title challengers are already set. Long-time rival Miguel Trindade will face Deniz Demirkapu for the vacant GLORY Featherweight Championship at GLORY 110 on October 17 at Antwerp's Lotto Arena.
