The promotion has announced that Luis Tavares is out of the tournament due to an undisclosed illness.
GLORY 85 will take place this Saturday, at Rotterdam Ahoy in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Aside from the Welterweight title fight between Endy Semeleer against Murthel Groenhart, the centerpiece of the card was supposed to be the Heavyweight 4-Man Tournament. The tournament winner is expected to face Antonio Plazibat at COLLISION 5 on June 15 and will receive a guaranteed spot in the Heavyweight Grand Prix at the end of the year, with $500,000 on the line.
The former two-division Enfusion champion's career has taken a dive in the last two years and was riddled with fight cancellations and a PED scandal, that ultimately led to his 11-month suspension. The move up to Heavyweight was supposed to be a fresh start for the 31-year-old, but will now have to wait a little longer.
Murat Aygün, 34, who was originally scheduled in a tournament reserve fight against Nikola Filipović will step in for him. Filipović now takes on heavy-hitting Fabio Kwasi, brother of GLORY Welterweight Chico Kwasi. While Kwasi is one of the best Heavyweight signings GLORY could have made, he just fought six days ago, losing a decision to Ivan Bartek at Cerberos Fight Night 11 in Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Slovakia.
