A rematch most predicted would take place within the year has officially been announced.
Undefeated ONE Championship Lightweight Kickboxing champion Alexis Nicolas will attempt to make his first title defense against the former titleholder Regian Eersel at ONE Fight Night 25 on October 5, at the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Unbeaten under the ONE Championship banner prior to his meeting with Nicolas, Regian Eersel went on a double-digit win streak with the promotion, with eight of those victories being in championship fights. An even stronger argument for the rematch is how razor close their first meeting was, with Nicolas taking the win by virtue of the knockdown he scored against the then-champion early on in the contest.
Should “The Immortal” emerge victorious we’re likely to see a trilogy fight, which will keep contenders such as Dmitry Menshikov and Rungrawee Sitsongpeenong waiting, while another triumph from the Frenchman will not only reaffirm him as one of the preeminent welterweights in the world, but keep the division moving and give him the chance to build his legacy. Either way, kickboxing fans are surely in for another treat, if their first fight is any indication.
