Kickboxing Rankings April 2023 — Tyjani Beztati Makes Dominant Third Lightweight Title Defense With Stoppage Over Petchpanomrung

We take a look at all the top fighters that were in action during the last month.

As kickboxing continues to grow on a global scale with promotions like GLORY, K-1, ONE Championship, and more, fighters are constantly jockeying for position in the media's eyes, and rankings. Every month, the Beyond Kickboxing board will compile kickboxing rankings for each weight class from Heavyweight to Flyweight, as well as the pound-for-pound rankings for both men and women. 

 


 

POUND-FOR-POUND MEN

Petchpanomrung (4) lost by knockout to Tyjani Beztati in a bout for the GLORY Lightweight title. 

Kazuki Osaki (5) defeats Javier Cecilio, putting away the Spaniard in the first round with a vicious combination to the body and head.

Taito Gunji (9) defeats View Petchkoson by controversial majority decision. The K-1 Featherweight king had trouble chasing down the elusive Thai fighter, only being able to land substantial shots in the third round of their title bout.

 


 

POUND-FOR-POUND WOMEN

Anissa Meksen (-) is out of the rankings after 18 months of inactivity in kickboxing rules - it was recently announced that she would make her MMA debut. 

Kotomi (-) is out of the rankings after 18 months of inactivity. 

Jorina Baars (4) scored four knockdowns on Emma Abrahamsson to force a stoppage and protect her Enfusion featherweight world title for the second time.

Kana (7) knocked out Funda Alkayiş with low kicks for the second defense of her K-1 Flyweight title.

Koyuki Miyazaki (8) scored the first knockout of her career against Byun Bo-Kyeong with a series of straight punches to the body.

Li Mingrui (9) beat Ella Grapperhaus by unanimous decision. The Chinese athlete is the reigning Wu Lin Feng -56 KG champion and has won eleven of her last twelve fights over the last four years.

Miyuu Sugawara (10) defeated Phayahong Ayuthayafightgym by unanimous decision in a rematch for the K-1 Atomweight title.

 


 

HEAVYWEIGHT (+95 KG)

Nordine Mahieddine (9) loses by unanimous decision to Felipe Micheletti after being knocked down twice in the third round by body shots. The result has no effect on his Heavyweight ranking as it was contested at 95 kg. If Mahieddine competes at Light Heavyweight in his next fight he will be removed from the Heavyweight rankings.

 


 

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT (-95 KG)

Felipe Micheletti (5) defeats Nordine Mahieddine by unanimous decision, scoring two knockdowns against the Algerian in the third round to secure the win.

Ștefan Lătescu (8) knocked out Seiya Tanigawa in the second round with punches after sending him to the canvas in the first.

Lukas Achterberg (9) defeated Perry Reichling by decision after three rounds in Germany.

Ariel Machado (-) was knocked out by Valeriy Bizyaev (10). The Russian enters the rankings, he sent Machado down three times before finishing the fight with a series of 1-2's and a right uppercut at the end of the second round.

 


 

MIDDLEWEIGHT (-85 KG)

Michael Boapeah (8) defeats Ertugrul Bayrak (10) by unanimous decision. He put on a frenetic pace to secure the victory over the Turkish fighter. 

Serdar Yigit Eroglu (-) is subsequently pushed out of the rankings.

 


 

WELTERWEIGHT (-77 KG)

Mohamed Mezouari (-) is out of the rankings after 18 months of inactivity. 

Regian Eersel (2) defeated Sinsamut Klinmee by body shot knockout to defend his ONE Muay Thai title. This doesn’t affect his standing in the rankings, as the fight was contested under Muay Thai rules.

Jay Overmeer (5) is still unbeaten since joining GLORY. He stopped Jamie Bates (6) in the second round after scoring three knockdowns with body shots.

Mohamed Touchassie (7) stayed undefeated after he knocked out Soufian Abdelkhalek in the third round of a fierce fight to qualify for the upcoming 8TKO one night tournament at 80kg.

Chico Kwasi (10) makes his entry. The Mike’s Gym fighter stopped the previously undefeated Stefan Orza in two rounds, sending the Romanian down twice before finishing him with a knee to the body.

 


 

LIGHTWEIGHT (-71 KG)

Tyjani Beztati (5) defeated Petchpanomrung by knockout with a body kick to successfully defend his GLORY Lightweight title for the third time.

Kaito (10) defeated Lee Sung Hyun by unanimous decision after five hard fought rounds to take his RISE title.

 


 

SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT (-67.5 KG)

Masaaki Noiri (-) defeated Dzhabar Askerov by first-round knockout. The bout was contested at a 69 KG catchweight, marking Noiri’s second consecutive fight above the 67.5 KG limit. He confirmed his intention to compete at 70 KG in the future. The former No. 2 ranked fighter leaves the rankings. 

Petchpanomrung (1) lost by knockout to Tyjani Beztati in a bout for the GLORY Lightweight title. The bout was contested a weight class up and doesn’t affect the rankings.

Kento Haraguchi (5) knocked out Jeremy Monteiro with a high kick in the fourth round to become the new ISKA oriental rules -65 KG world champion.

Tetsuya Yamato (8) successfully defended his K-1 65 KG title against Kenta Hayashi in a back-and-forth bout, the knockdown he scored in the first round guaranteed him the unanimous decision win.

Marcos Rios (-) was knocked out in just 46 seconds by Chihiro Suzuki (9) who enters the rankings. 

Taiju Shiratori (10) makes his entry after a strong performance against former Krush champion Daizo Sasaki at RISE El Dorado.

 


 

FEATHERWEIGHT (-64 KG)

Zheng Junfeng (-) is out of the rankings after 18 months of inactivity. 

Yuki Yoza (1) confirmed his position, defeating Taio Asahisa (3) by unanimous decision in a furious rematch, taking his K-1 belt in the process.

Chadd Collins (6) knocked out Fah Likit in two rounds under Muay Thai rules to become the new WMC world champion. This doesn’t affect his ranking.

Kan Nakamura (10) is back in.

 


 

SUPER BANTAMWEIGHT (-61 KG)

Silviu Vitez (9) lost by unanimous decision to Seksan in a Muay Thai rules fight. It doesn't affect his ranking. If Vitez was to compete outside his weight class or in Muay Thai rules in his next fight he would be removed from the rankings.

 


 

BANTAMWEIGHT (-58 KG)

Taito Gunji (1) defeats View Petchkoson by controversial majority decision. The K-1 Featherweight king had trouble chasing down the elusive Thai fighter, only being able to land substantial shots in the third round of their title bout.

Haruto Yasumoto (2) defeats K-1 ace Toma (3) by unanimous decision and earns his spot into the rankings. The RISE representative showed off impressive power and ability to mix his combinations to the head and body of his opponent, dominating the first two rounds.

Kompetch (-) leaves the rankings to now be ranked a division lower.

Riku Morisaka (9) defeats Shuhei Kumura (-) by unanimous decision to become the new Krush champion. Morisaka started off strong, knocking down the champion with a spinning backfist in the first round and countering punches with his lead left kick and hooks, winning all three rounds on the judge’s cards.

Takahito Niimi (-) lost by unanimous decision to RISE champion Keisuke Monguchi (8). Niimi exits the rankings after losing five of his last seven fights. Monguchi drowned him with close range combinations and pressure for all three rounds.
 


 

SUPER FLYWEIGHT (-55 KG)

Shiro (1) captured the newly created RISE Bantamweight world title when he knocked out Diesellek Wor.Wanchai at the end of the fifth round with a right high kick after chopping away at the Thai's lead leg with low kicks all fight.

Masashi Kumura (2) defeats Masahiko Suzuki (3) by unanimous decision in a three round war where he scored a knockdown in the second round with a stiff jab. Kumura was able to weather the storm of Suzuki's hooks and leg kicks, by catching the former RISE Bantamweight king with a stiff piston jab and prodding at his body with an active lead leg.

Akihiro Kaneko (3) defeats Kompetch Sitsarawatser (5) by majority decision to retain his K-1 title. Kaneko backed Komphet up to the ropes for the entire fight but without finding any entries resulting in a low kick battle for two rounds. In the third, Kaneko pushed the pace and let his hands go to take the lead, although still narrowly getting the better of the action. Kompetch, having made the 55 kg limit, enters the rankings based on his previous win at catchweight over Masashi Kumura. 

 


 

FLYWEIGHT (-53 KG)

Kazuki Osaki (1) defeats Javier Cecilio, putting away the Spaniard in the first round with a vicious combination to the body and head of Cecilio.

Kazane (2) lost by unanimous decision to Toki Tamaru (8) in a 54 KG catchweight serving as a qualifying match for the upcoming world Tournament. It doesn't affect the rankings. Tamaru’s speed and precision got the better of the volume and pressure style of Kazane.

Originally a unanimous decision win for Yodsila Chor.Hapayak (5) against Issei Ishii (6), the result of the fight was changed to a technical draw after the knock down in the second round was ruled to be against the rules. As attacking off of a caught kick is illegal. The original result of the fight is taken into account for the rankings. His entry pushes Kazuki Miburo (-) out of the rankings.

Koudai (-) exits the rankings after losing his Hoost Cup 53 KG title by unanimous decision to newly ranked Ryuki Matsuda (10) who scored a knockdown in the fourth round of their fight with an impressive punching combination.
