Anissa Meksen is back. The French fighter's journey with ONE Championship has been everything but smooth, but things are heading in the right direction. She's scheduled to fight Phetjeeja for the interim Atomweight Kickboxing Championship on December 22 at ONE Friday Fights 46. As always, the fight will go down at the historic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
Meksen, 35, was recently seen calling out K-1 champion KANA on social media, gunning for a fight back in ONE Championship after a fallout with the promotion back in January. The former GLORY champion has not competed under kickboxing rules since stopping Cristina Morales in September of 2021, but is poised to be the favorite against Phetjeeja.
The Thai fighter comes as a surprising opponent, as she's not competed under kickboxing rules since 2017 – a decision loss to MIO. The 21-year-old has looked flawless in her four ONE appearances so far, tearing through her overmatched opposition. The former child prodigy rapidly gained fame in Thailand as the "girl that could defeat boys", when she was collecting titles and belts in the various provinces of Thailand. With nine straight knockouts wins, she's one of the better finishers in the sport, regardless of gender.
The big question in all of this – where is Janet Todd? The American fighter has not defended her Atomweight Kickboxing belt since winning the title against Stamp Fairtex back in 2020, which adds up to a whooping 1341 days title reign. The former double-sport champion was last in action when she lost her Muay Thai title against Allycia Rodrigues.
