Hari's arrest reignites his legal turmoil and issues with violence beyond the ring.

Kickboxer Badr Hari was arrested in Amsterdam on suspicion of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of Sunday, further adding to the former GLORY heavyweight title challenger’s long history of legal troubles outside the ring.

Local authorities confirmed that they have detained 40-year-old Hari following a reported altercation at the residence of his ex-girlfriend while he was dropping their five children off for a visitation arrangement. Hari remains detained under formal suspicion of assault, with prosecutors expected to determine charges in the coming days.

The arrest marks the latest in a string of legal battles for the former kickboxing superstar, whose career has been repeatedly sidelined by off-canvas controversies, including prior convictions for assault and public disturbances.

His most notable conviction was for the assault of businessman Koen Everink in 2012 for which he served 2 years in prison in 2017. During the Everink case, allegations of violence from Hari’s then-ex-girlfriend were also brought up in court. Although she did not press charges, text messages she sent to a friend were used as evidence.

Once hailed as one of the sport’s most dominant heavyweights, Hari has struggled to reconcile his in-ring achievements with his reputation for immoral and volatile behavior. Hari's 2023 comeback fight under the GLORY banner sparked hopes of a career resurgence, but this latest incident raises doubts about his future in the sport.
