It took a while, but the rematch has finally been booked.
Ilias Ennahachi will make his third ONE Flyweight Kickboxing championship defense against the two-weight Lumpinee Stadium champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE on Prime Video 6, which will take place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on January 13, 2023.
The pair previously fought in the main event of 'ONE Championship: Fists Of Fury' on February 26, 2021, in what was Ennahachi's second title defense. Although Ennahachi would walk away from the fight the winner of a unanimous decision, his performance and the judges' decision were met with backlash from the fans, with some feeling that Superlek should've walked away with the belt that evening, while others were displeased with an overly passive and cautious performance from the Dutch champion.
Even though ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong stated that an immediate rematch would be scheduled in the post-fight press conference, it would take almost two years before the contracts were finally signed. Since then, Superlek has notched two victories in the Thai stadiums and took part in the 2022 ONE Flyweight Muay Thai Grand Prix. He is expected to face Panpayak Jitmuangnon in the Grand Prix finals, which will take place on the 3rd of next month.
Ennahachi, on the other hand, hasn't fought since their first meeting and will enter the title bout following the longest period of inactivity of his professional career.
In the second announced Super Series bout, British Muay Thai legend Liam Harrison will take on the two-weight Lumpinee Stadium champion Pongsiri P.K.Saenchaimuaythaigym. Both fighters seem to be on the back-end of their careers and both will enter the fight on losses. In his most recent appearance, the 37-year-old Harrison suffered a first-round knockout loss to the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, while the 32-year-old Pongsiri suffered a decision loss to Pasquale G.Amoroso in a vacant WMO World Welterweight title bout. Despite those losses, both fighters put on entertaining contests and have been appropriately matched.
As we've previously reported, the entire event will be headlined by a ONE Muay Thai Bantamweight championship bout between the champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao and challenger Alaverdi Ramazanov.
