The K-1 Super Bantamweight Champion is no longer facing any charges.

The Chiba District Public Prosecutors Office has decided not to indict Akihiro Kaneko following an investigation into allegations of assault and extortion. The decision, announced on March 26, cites insufficient evidence to pursue charges.

Kaneko, the reigning K-1 World Grand Prix Super Bantamweight Champion, was accused of physically assaulting a training partner at a gym in Chiba City’s Chuo Ward. The case was initially referred to prosecutors by the Chiba Prefectural Police in October 2023 and again in January 2024. Despite the repeated filings, prosecutors ultimately determined there was not enough substantiated evidence to proceed with an indictment.

The case drew significant attention due to the severity of the allegations, including claims that Kaneko had subjected his training partner to physical and mental abuse over an extended period. While the legal process has now concluded with no charges filed, the fallout from the accusations continues to cast a shadow over the fighter’s career.

Neither Kaneko nor his representatives have publicly commented on the prosecutor’s decision at this time.
