In yesterday's Q&A session with Thai media, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong revealed that Rodtang will return to kickboxing in June at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. His opponent has not been revealed yet.
More importantly, ONE Championship will have the Muay Thai champion unofficially double-booked once again. The promotion hopes to book the Thai against former K-1 champion Takeru in September, if he comes out unscathed. The location of the event has not been revealed yet, but Chatri previously talked about two additional Japan events in 2024.
"Rodtang will fight in June, but we haven't officially announced it. Rodtang will return in June at Impact Arena for a big event. We haven't announced his opponent but his opponent already agreed [to the fight]. I will officially announce in 2-3 weeks, maybe 1 week, I am not sure. But Rodtang is 100% now. His hands are 100%. And his form is hot right now. I want to make another Rodtang fight in September. I will try. Rodtang is 100% and Takeru wants another fight this year. I am not 100% sure which month, but we have been thinking about it."
Takeru was originally booked to take on Rodtang in February at ONE 165 in Tokyo, Japan. ONE Championship's golden boy had to pull out of the fight, and the fight was upgraded to a title challenge against Flyweight Kickboxing champion Superlek. This announcement comes as a surprise to many, as Takeru has not been cleared to fight yet and is currently nursing a fractured knee.
