Rodtang Jitmuangnon will make his fourth ONE Flyweight Muay Thai title defense against the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai champion Joseph Lasriri, in what will be Lasiri's first fight at Flyweight in over three years. The championship bout is set to take place at ONE on Prime Video 4 in the Singapore Indoor Stadium on November 18.
One of the promotion's most popular fighters, Rodtang made his ONE debut four years ago, with a decision win over Sergio Wielzen. He won his next three fights, before capturing the ONE Flyweight belt with a victory against Jonathan Haggerty, a title which he has since defended three times. Although Rodtang is undefeated in his eleven Muay Thai appearances in the ONE circle, questions remain about whether he can keep making the Flyweight limit. He was expected to meet Savvas Michael in the semifinals of the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai Grand Prix on August 25, but withdrew as he failed to provide a sample for a mandatory hydration test and was not allowed to weigh in.
Should he make weight, he will face the ONE Strawweight titlist Joseph Lasiri. After losing his four fights with the promotion, Lasiri rebounded big time. Most notably beating future ONE Kickboxing Bantamweight Champion Hiroki Akimoto and his title-winning stoppage of Prajanchai P.K.Saenchaimuaythaigym, at the time regarded as one of the best Muay Thai stylists in the world.
It will be interesting to see whether Lasiri's giant-killing performances will continue with Rodtang, or if the Thai's pressure game will prove a bit too much for the gifted Italian.
