GLORY has added another title bout to the GLORY 96 event. Ranked 6th on the Beyond Kickboxing pound-for-pound rankings, Donovan Wisse will now feature on the fight card. The 27-year-old Surinamese fighter is set to defend his belt against Sergej Braun in the co-main event of the evening. Earlier, it was announced that Chico Kwasi will make his first title defense against lightweight champion Tyjani Beztati.
SERGEJ BRAUN
With no clear contenders for the title and most of the high-ranked fighters having already taken their shots, it doesn't take much in the middleweight division to be next in line. For that reason, it's no surprise that Sergej Braun emerged as the obvious contender after his upset win over Moroccan youngster Mohamed Touchassie.
The 35-year-old German karateka is known for his toughness and demonstrated that once again. Just a week after his hard-fought battle with Touchassie, he defended his WAKO-PRO Light Heavyweight title (81.4 kg) at Battle of Barock 3 in his home country.
WHAT'S NEXT
In October, Wisse will have reigned over the division for over three years. During this time, he has defended his belt four times and has nearly cleared out the division, leaving GLORY matchmaker Robbie Timmers with the difficult task of finding new challengers. However, Wisse may have his own solution to this problem. In Remy Bonjasky's talk show, WarriorTalk, Wisse admitted he is considering moving up to the light heavyweight division: "I said it to Robbie before, he said it wasn't time yet and I agree. Two more defenses and I will have more than Pereira." The conversation continued about a possible matchup with the current champion, Tarik Khbabez, which Wisse found interesting.
