ONE Championship confirmed that an undisclosed injury has forced Rodtang out of his Flyweight Kickboxing title bout with reigning champion Superlek, which was set to headline this Saturday's ONE Fight Night 8 card in Singapore.
Rodtang has been riding a 13-fight undefeated winning streak in ONE Championship, and was long overdue to face Superlek, but fate never seemed to be in favor for those two to meet. Despite the setbacks, Superlek is optimistic that he will fight Rodtang eventually: "I am disappointed that this fight is not happening, but I also understand injuries can happen. It happened to me too before, but it was also the fight everyone was looking forward to, so I’m a little bit sad about it. I'm the champion of kickboxing, Rodtang is champion of Muay Thai, so I think in the near future we will have to face each other."
The second heavy hit the card took. ONE recently also announced that the Heavyweight MMA title unification bout between Arjan Bhullar and Anatoly Malykhin has been postponed due to "shift in broadcaster commitments".
Daniel Williams who will be replacing Rodtang on short notice was originally scheduled to face Rui Botelho in a Strawweight Muay Thai bout earlier on the card.
The Australian is most known for his war against Rodtang at 'ONE on TNT 1', where he also took the fight as a late replacement for the injured Jacob Smith. He's since started focussing more on MMA, going 2-1 in the promotion with wins over Namiki Kawahara and Zelang Zhaxi.
Aside from moving up a weight-class, 'Mini T' hasn't competed in Kickboxing rules since 2015 when he was signed to K-1.
A tough test and big opportunity for the three-sport athlete.
