Earlier today, Chatri Sityodthong, the CEO of ONE Championship, announced on his Facebook page that Tawanchai PK Saenchai will defend his ONE Featherweight Muay Thai belt against Superbon Singha Mawynn, the former ONE Featherweight Kickboxing champion.
After Superbon scored a highlight-reel knock out against Tayfun Ozcan and called out Chingiz Allazov, Chatri said that he has "decided Superbon will face the winner of Chingiz Allazov and Marat Grigorian".
However, this all-Thai dream match-up now takes precedence, giving Superbon the opportunity to challenge for the Muay Thai belt, and giving Tawanchai the chance to cement his championship reign with a high-level win. But first, Tawanchai needs to get past Davit Kiria, the former GLORY Lightweight champion, in his ONE kickboxing debut on August 4.
Apart from a slight hiccup in a split decision loss to all-time-great Sittichai in a short-notice weight and opponent switch, Tawanchai easily cruised through his other ONE Muay Thai opponents, knocking out Sean Clancy, Saemapetch Fairtex and Niclas Larsen. While he won his ONE Muay Thai belt in a closely contested bout with Petchmorakot, it took Tawanchai only 49 seconds and one leg kick to knock Jamal Yusupov out, to defend it.
Superbon shocked the kickboxing world in October 2021, when he scored his career-defining high kick knock out against kickboxing great Giorgio Petrosyan, to capture the inaugural ONE Featherweight Kickboxing title. He then defended the belt against Marat Grigorian, the former GLORY and K-1 champion, in a shutout performance. However, he was stunned in a one-sided knockout defeat to Chingiz Allazov, before he started his comeback with an impressive stoppage over Tayfun Ozcan on June 9.
